I purchased a set of Stubbs Welding sliders from Richard last month. I was one of the lucky last few to get in on the deal before it expired. I purchased the 15 degree cant "Standard" model because it was a good compromise between usability and off-road use.

Over the course of this past week, I spent my evenings prepping, priming and painting the sliders in my garage. It gave me a good opportunity to really inspect the quality of the material and the welds. And needless to say (like others have said), Stubbs rocks!

As for the prep/painting, even though Hammerite says you don't need to use primer, I wiped them down w/ acetone and then used a self-etching auto primer and sanded it down w/ 1000 grit sandpaper after drying. I then before applied 2 coats of Hammerite and 2 coats of clear coat (thanks for the advice, HaveBlue). Turned out well, even for my crappy prepping/painting skills.

Yesterday, I made a 45 mile drive to get them welded at Demello Offroad. Yeah, kinda strange going to his competitor's shop, but they were cool with it (thanks for making the call, Richard ). It was great because I got a chance to meet Jason Demello as others like Calrockx and Skyrat have purchased their sliders from Demello.

Demello and his assistant Taylor kept me entertained and explained everything they were doing. They definitely take pride in their work and are very cool guys. Also while I was there, I got a chance to poke around their shop and look at their sliders, bumpers and their Tacomas. And let me tell you, they've got some great products too!

The first thing I did this morning was to finally wash my 4runner...it still had dirt/mud on it from the Hungry Valley trip. I needed to wash it anyways and take some poseur shots w/ the Satoshi grill mod and the sliders on.

Quite frankly, the 4runner community is pretty lucky to have two great slider vendors in Richard Stubbs and Jason Demello. Either way, you won't lose out!

Yeah, love the 3rd gens. And this mod'g is getting contagious! I highly doubt that I'm going to go any further at this point since we're in the market to buy a house, but who knows, I might win the lottery.

Hah! "doubt that I'm going to go any further" - BS and you know it. You either sell it like I did...or you continue to dump money into it. But then again you are married and kids so I guess that has a big effect on things. 6 more months and l'll see how that works out.

Yes, Yes , Yes.............Jason is someone with whom I would recommend do your installation. He is someone who really cares about his work , and will take care of you! (Peter I know you are So. Cal) but for anyone down that way your only REAL choice , and also my preferred installer in So Cal is DeMello Offroad.

Jason has such good fabrication skills A????? decided to copy his Tacoma Rear bumper :wtf: uhhhhh flattery or infringement!? I have made my decision.........I am Anti A????? now unless they decide to give Jason Royalties on his design or stop making those bumpers immediately. Blantent first hand copy cating of someone elses work. Laaaaaaaaaaame!

Hey, Bob... I'm not trying to razz you or give you a hard time here, just an innocent question. Do you wheel your rig? For some reason, I always thought you weren't into wheeling, but the addition of sliders certainly suggests otherwise.

I don't wheel either but I am considering putting some on mine too.
Nerf bars stink cause you pay alot for em but they aren't very durable.
Those sliders can be for looks or function.....tell me everyone has em on their rig just for rock sliding!
.....of course not....it's part of the design.

We want quality and the sliders are it....rock climber or poser. :pat:

No problem. Yes, this 4runner does wheel. Nothing hardcore like rock crawling, but yes, when I do get a chance, I go.

You bring up some good points. The sliders were definately made with wheeling in mind, and the majority of my customers I belive are buying them to use them for the intended usage. However your point about the nerfs really makes sence. If someone were to put on sliders they will still serve a good purpose (fending off those inevidable morons who like to put their doors into our rigs!) but at any time you could start wheeling the rig , and atleast have one of the more important pieces of body protection. You unfortunately would be out of luck trying to do the same thing with a nerf bar(hence having to spend money twice).
The model of slider that Bob bought which is or best seller comes in two different angles 15 & 30 degrees . Bob choose the 15 degree which makes the slider more step in friendly vs. the more geared to the rockcrawler 30 degree model.
