Hey to all, was trying to do the MAF sensor cleaning thing and like so many others, found one stripped screw and I did the other. So no cleaning done. I read the different threads on how to get them out etc. But no mention that I noticed on where to get replacement screws. talking auto parts/hardware store, vs. a junk yard. any comments here would be appreciated. thanks in advance

I've only written a few threads and responses and everthing so far has been very helpful.

okay, actually i once lost a MAF screw. i went to a couple hardware stores, and after much searching, found a suitable screw. not sure where you live, but around here there's a hardware shop that has pretty much every size/type of screw/bolt possible. so you may have a store like that in your area. or, try searching online.

I stripped mine a long time ago. I just removed it with a stripped srew extractor bit from Sears and went to Lowe's and bought some decent stainless screws. No worries now. Hope that helps.

thanks for the heads up, actually that's how I srtipped the second screw, with a screw extractor. I'll figure it out though. tap and drill, probably. thanks again.

Ditto on my 2000. I was able to drill the head off of the screw and used a small easy-out, then went through my "screw jar" and found one that fit. Put some anti-oxidant on the threads.

Hey to all, thanks to all who responded to my call for help. After the "check engine" light came on again I decided I really needed to get that sensor out and see if that was the problem. Had to use a drill for the screws and then an easy out. All said and done, was a ten minute job at best. I took out the sensor and one side looked spotless and the other looked like, well crap, grey dusty dirt!! took out the contact cleaner and q-tip and had at it. re- assembled with new screws** and pulled the EFI fuse to reset the light, stated her up, seems to run smoother, we'll see if that was the problem.

** for future reference, got the screws at Home Depot/Lowes, 4mm by 10mm, beveled machined phillips screws for about 35 cents.

If the light comes back on you should take it in to get the codes read.

you may want to go to autozone and get their reader just to clear the codes out of memory

I bought an OBD II reader on Ebay for about $15. It's come in handy but it doesn't clear the codes - even though the instructions say it will. The more annoying part was when I finally found out what was making the code happen on my wife's Highlander..... there's an EGR line that runs RIGHT next to the oil filter and I was bumping it loose during oil changes. Arrgh!

Hey thanks for all the help and advice, I went to Auto Zone and because I had pulled the EFI fuse they told me and showed me that there were no codes to read. The EFI fuse apparently clears the codes. Also I just bought a Actron Code Scanner off of Amazon.com model 9145, that reads ' em, explains 'em and clears them. Should be here this week. again, thanks. EDH
