Strange warm start up noise
Hey guys! I'm new to Toyota trucks. I bought me a used 2001 Tacoma PreRunner with the 2.7l in it about 4 months ago. Truck only has 120k on it and ran perfect. I changed the oil(Castro GTX and Toyota filter) changed spark plugs, rear end oil, and tranny oil. All was well just wanted to start over with new fluids. Truck ran perfect however here like a month ago, the truck makes a weird knocking noise on warm start up. If it gets to operating temps and you shut it off let it sit for about 5-10 mins and restart it , it makes the knocking sound for about 30 seconds. I'm stumped as to what it is I've never heard or seen of it. When cold, the truck makes zero noises on start up and runs perfect. Any help would be appreciated as to what this could be or where I need to start looking.

Stange sounds are nearly impossible to diagnosis over the 'net.
Can you post up a bit of audio? Have you used isolated the general area where the sound is coming from?
Auto or manual tranny?
Does is make the noise while stopped, moving, or both?
We need more details.......

I can post a video when I get off of work today. The sound only happens after warm start up it will happen for about 30 seconds regardless if you are in drive or at idle. Then the sounds goes away. Its an automatic tranny and I'm 85% sure the noise is coming from the bottom of the engine. As much as I hate to say it almost.sounds like its coming from right around the oil pan.

I think I have pinpointed the sound coming from top of the engine. I know the older Tacoma's have to have their valves adjusted. Do I need to do this with the 2.7?
