Strange Intermittent Parking Brake Light

The parking brake light on my '99 Tacoma mysteriously comes on when I step on the gas, then goes off when I'm coasting. This only seems to happen when it's cold outside! Has anyone else had a similar problem?
Thanks - Ian

First thing I'd do is check the brake fluid. Low fluid could cause that to happen. Also, you either need to do a brake job or find the leak in your system. Most likely it'll be worn down pads.

Second thing I'd do is check your parking brake to make sure its fully disengaged and that it stays where you put it. If it just barely hits the switch under the dash and has a little bit of play that could also turn on the light.

x2....check the fluid...if it's low, fill it just to make sure you have some in there and to not get an airbubble in the system. Check for leaks, worn pads or shoes and check the P-brake switch. Mine has done this as well, but I knew I was low on fluid.

my 90 runner had that problem... more than likely its the fluid level... but, on mine it was because the sensor in the cap(the float sensor) was broken... once i replaced, it was good as new...

Low brake fluid. Usually it's low because the brake pads/shoes have worn down. The pads/shoes may still be fine but they are riding further in now and the fluid fills the wheel cylinders causing the low fluid level. Top off the fluid but also have the pads and shoes checked.
