So what does G294 mean?
G = 8" diff
29 = 4.10 gears
4 = 4-pinion diff

most likely on a heavy truck or something. no way you're going to be able to make a 7.xx gear run on an 8" diff. maybe something like a dyna or other big truck like that could have them available

I'm actually not even sure what kind of gears I have but I figured that since I had 31's on the truck when I got it that I have 4.88's on there...I'll check the stuff on my door panel when I get home to be sure.
Thanks,

Fink, my truck came with the factory 31 inch tire package too and 4.88 gears. 31's with the 4.88 are about the same as 33's with 5.29, both however are geared too high IMHO.
The best set-up I have run was 33's with 5.71 gears with the auto tranny. With that set-up the 3.0 could pull the OD gear quite nicely in the 65-85 mph range. The only problem was the 5.71 gears didn't hold up more that about 40K miles for me. So I'm running 5.29's now.

i went to an offroad shop and the guy said he's seen some broken rear ends with 5.29 gears. he recommended 4.88 for 33's. although the peps on this forum haven't seemed to have had any problems with 5.29s

33's and stock 4.88's for 4 months or so now. I ran 32's for 85-90K miles with no problems. Although, MY 3.0 is a real powerhouse . It does just fine and its purty hilly here.
