Stock 1st gen: ford 35" of H2O

Ok, so I got caught in some water today... but managed not to get stuck. After getting on solid dry land, I got the tape out and measured to the water line on the side of my truck: 35" of water. My advice, I wouldn't advise doing it unless, like me you had too... the water filled in the access road overnight between the campsite and the the main road. My truck's a stick and the clutch slips real bad when your in that much water. Question is: should I drain the diffs? I know the answer is probably but im curious as to the odds of water intrusion.

When was the last time you changed it, and why chance it if you have not extended your breathers up highter, even then, how well do you trust your axle seals?

if the water was that deep, definately change the diff fluid, also tranny, and engine oil too... basically flush all fluid systems....

Well I know all the seals are good, and I trust them, but I don't trust the breathers. I've already planned on changin the diffs, but I just changed the tranny fluid, and really don't want to just let 40 bucks worth of fluid go to waste... the luck :-/

where is your tranny breather located? if its anywhere below 35" then it's not $40 your wasting but cheap insurance as trannies are a hell of a lot more than $40

He shouldn't need to change his fluids unless he was in the water long enough to cool his diffs/tranny. When the diffs cool, this creates a suction which draws the water in. Otherwise the breathers should do their job at keeping the water out. I would just check the levels in the diffs and tranny. If water got sucked in then the level will be higher than the fill hole and will cause fluid to come out when the bolt is removed.

My bet is that you are fine but it is cheap insurance to change them.
