Still getting a Thud / Knock !!

Ok so heres what i have done so far.

Oil Change
Front rear & diff change
Trasfer case change
Transmission change

Yesterday i Lubed all the zerks on the drive shaft and u-joints.

Today still getting the same thud / knock noise. I do not think its the transmission at all.. Shifts very smooth. But it sounds and feels like its from the driveshaft of the axle.

Also i got about 25 miles from home with out it doing it. Once i got off the highway on back roads it started up again. I noticed it when i slowed down and when the car downshifted. But it also does the thud/knock when i accelerate usally right after the car downshifts.

What should i do now?

Thanks for everyone help!

Here is too responces i have gotten so far -

unfortunatley i am at a loss. what you did solved my problems and many others. perhaps your slip joint or something is bad?? maybe make a new post or add this to the existing one and see what people recommend. again, sorry for not being able to help you out further.

JON, so, you did not fix the problem with the instructions given in that thread, right?? If not, then i could have told you that from the beginning. Lubing is only a temporary fix for most 4th gen 4runners. This is, IMHO, a design flaw rear suspension. This is why changing out the driveshaft does NOT work either. It is the geometry of the rear suspension that is the main problem. You have to do the whole thing, as directed in the 4/06 Lexus TSB.

By the way this is the grease i used - http://www.mobiloil.com/USA-English/...ic_Grease.aspx

I read alot of posts on this happening when brakng. Mine makes the thud usally when appling the brake but not coming to a complete stop. Then it usally thuds again right after i accelerate again. But mine does not just do it when comming to a stop. It can do it when i'm going 50mph

I never had that problem with my 4Runner but on my other vehicles, when I got something like that that sounded like a thud from the driveshaft, it was a u-joint gone south.

just had ny local shop guy take a look at it. The only thing he thinks might be wronge is that there may be too much play in the front drive/trans axle. He said jeeps have no play and wasent sure if the 4runners should?

Anyone know anything about this?

Thanks!!

My first thought is axle wrap, as I know that is were my thud is coming from but waiting to order new spring pack/ then I will add a link to eliminate this all together.

My other thought is engine mount, have had this on a few friends cars over the years(never a yota but who knows). The symptoms where both on braking and accelerating slow or fast. In both cases the mounts just needed to be tightened..they were not spent. jm.02

I second the engine mounts. I had that problem with a friends truck when he bought it. a little more torque on the bolts fixed it

Just a heads up.. My thud is comming from the front axle.. It also only thuds when i'm slowing down. Down hill or braking for traffic...For example when i'm going 50mph and sow down to 30 or 20mph.. Not when i come to a comlete stop... Is this the same issue??????
