Stereo wiring for pickup?

Hello I realized my stereo doesn't work in acc mode, I know it's a wiring thing, but I don't know what the wires are, the harnesses were cut. Does anyone have a list of what the different wires are? I have a green/red, a yellow, a black and some others. All I really need is the color of the acc power.

Eeek! Cut harnesses are a PAIN. Your best bet until I can do some digging on that is to use a test light and find the ACC. It will be the one that has 12v when the key is at ACC or when the engine is running, but off the rest of the time. If you have airbags, dont use the test light, instead use a DMM set to read DCV. You may or may not get really low readings on other wires if you use the DMM, but dont sweat it, when you hit a hot wire, it should read btwn 12.5-14.5v.

It may be an idea to go to a junk yard and cut the harness off of a junker of the same year with some extra wire length to spare, then splice the new, salvaged harness in. This will save you MASSIVE headaches if you have to change CD players in the future...

Hopefully on Wed night ill have time to work on my dashlights and in the process Ill have a look at the factory harness for you. I have to install my low pro bump stops on the driver's side, replace the CRUSHED rubber bushings on my airshocks with these polyurethane bad boys, replace those dashlight 76bulbs and try to fit my indiglows in there with some sanding...

Im going to be busy after my test on wed....LOL

Steve

Not that big of a pain. Lots of wiring harnesses use standard color codings for connections. I will do some hunting around and find the ACC wire color and post back when I find it.

Los Gatos,

Look at my article "Hardwiring a Valentine 1". There is a very clear pic of the 12V accessory wire. You will see the black/yellow wire that I tapped.

One caveat: the color of the wire might have changed from my 1998 to your year. Thus, test w/ a multimeter as others have said.
