Arrow Stereo troubleshooting help needed

Ok, guys I am not very good with Stereo stuff, so here is the deal:

Alpine 3 disc in-dash head unit
Stock front speakers (and separate tweets)
Stock (I think) rear door speakers
Aftermarket tweets (on each rear door)

My problem:

The rear speakers and tweets do not work at all. This leads me to believe they are not hooked up (as opposed to blown). I already checked the obvious (fader/balance).

I would like to troubleshoot this problem on Saturday. My first plan of attack will be to follow the wires from the rear speakers and see where they go.

I bought the 4Runner this way. The previous owner had a nice system, and claims it was wired for an amp. I think she had 2 JBL 10's. She tried to sell that stuff to me, but I told her I wasn't really into stereo's. So she had the amp and speakers removed. Could she have had the 10's and the rear speakers hooked up to one amp?

I could use some troubleshooting advice if you have any. I am decent with electrical, and have installed a couple head units and two amps in the past. I am a bit rusty as you can see.

Please help if you can. Thank you!

Two things go through my mind:
-It could be a component set and she took out the crossovers

-She could have just added the tweeters and kept the rear speakers stock

If she had a crossover, then my guess is that she took it with her. You could wire it this way.

Get a capacitor for the + side tweeter wire (this limits the signal to only the highs). Then bring both wires + and - to the door speaker and solder it into those.

This would be the cheap way to do it.

More expensive route
If the rears are stock, replace them with better speakers and get a crossover, send the mid/low signal to the 4" and the hi's to the tweeter..

I can berely hear my rear door speakers anyway (probably because my sub is so loud). IMO if you hook up the tweeter, you probably won't be able to hear a big difference..
