Steering Wheel / Wheelskin Screwup

Well I ordered a wheelskin for my steering wheel (1998 4Runner LTD) last night, to be sure about measurements I cut the old ratty cover off that is when I noticed a layer of goo on the area around the spokes. Well I put some goo gone on a rag and started to rub the goo off. BAD IDEA, it pitted the rubber underneath the goo. I know the wheel skin won't cover the spokes but I need a solution to smooth out the pitting and then colormatch the wheel (Oak Vinyl Paint??) Are there recommendations out there? I don't want to compound my mistake.

Skim it with epoxy putty to fill the divots.

I think you are right... I am calling them right now... Was it difficult to install, around the spokes and such?

get it presewn. DO NOT get a "basic" kit unless you like to sew like an old lady for about 2 days.

presewn will go on in 30 min and looks BETTER than factory - more like high-end lexus or mercedes... very soft too...

the "dye" on mine has worn off in a little less than a year. i just sent them the email to see about an exchange under warranty (2 years). you might want to wait and see how they deal w/ me before you drop $90 on a wheel cover...

Thank you for your input. PM me when you find out how they handle your "dye" issue. I just talked with them and got a quote of 71.95 + 7 shipping (for the presown kit). The wheelskin is going back on ebay when it arrives.
