steering shaft extension?????

do u have to have a steering shaft extension with a 4'' suspension lift? I have a 98 tacoma 4x4. I have heard you do and I have heard you dont? I have a body lift on the truck now and already have a 3 inch extension, but do you need one with a susp. lift?

you dont need a steering shaft extension with a bodylift if you already have one.... the bodylift took care of that extension as the steering shaft is body related.....

however if you have a 4" suspension lift, you might want to look into dropped pitman arms or the like

the tacos use a rack and pinion type steering, so if you have a drop bracket type lift the steering shaft will have to be lengthened because the lift relocates the rack lower down

As mentioned, if the lift kit drops the front axle and steering, then yes, you'll need to add a second extension. I've supplied a few of mine for that type of application, the body lift extension goes at the top of the shaft, my rag joint extension goes at the bottom. The lift kit would typically come with an extension, if its needed, but it would be for a stock height truck, it would not account for you already having a body lift. Contact the lift kit mfg. and ask them about the steering.
