Starting problems, starter or battery or ???
I got a 98 4rnr v6 and have been having some intermitted starting problems. On a couple times for remote start now it just will click and not turn over..... And once or twice with the key the same thing, then on other times it might turn over slowly like the battery is dead, then other times turn over with no problems.
I find now with no fan/stereo or other things on it start like nothing is wrong, but not always. And I have had some long trips to give it time to charge up, then after 3 hrs driven chug-chug to start, 2 minute drive and a restart vroom….
I’ve cleaned the points on the terminals, when the truck is running its charging at 14.3v. Not sure if this could affect it much, but the temperature has ben starting to really fluctulate, and seems to act up more when it is cold, but not all of the time.
Before I start throwing $ to fix things that may be ok, could I get some input? I was thinking bad battery, can a battery get wonky like this with sometimes it would turn over like nothing is wrong, then like its totally dead then like its low.... Then I wondered if the starter is on its way out but seems to turn fine when it has the power, or maybe the alternator acting up not charging right or intermittently.... or even worse *gulp* a electrical problem.....
Any ideas?

Most Auto parts stores will test the battery. It needs to have ABOVE 12V. If not, the battery's probably on it's way out. The fact that it will start fine if there is no other load on the battery is an indication that it is, indeed, the battery. I would start there and then troubleshoot from that point.

Could be a bad battery..
Was at work one day when the women said here brand new BMW need a jump...
I was complelety dumpfounded..
Went out, put the key in and sure enough ti was dead...
Jumped it, perfectly fine....
Turned the car off imedietly to see if there might have been another issue, went to turn the key, wouldn't you know the car turned over without a problem....
Porabably a bad cell or soemthing...
Is it just your temp gauge or are all teh gauges seeming a little off...
I have heard that if the altinator is going the dash will act funky....
Thats just my 2 cents on the subject...
