What makes you sure that you're getting fuel and spark? Have you physically removed the plugs to see if they have fuel on them? Have you had someone pull some spark plug wires to make sure they're firing when you spin the engine?

Yes one mechanic said he saw spart and another said he thought it was a weak one. No didnt pull plugs. Fuel pump works though. Ignitor or coil? Yes 40k on truck when i bought it. 86 yr old man had it . He bought it new 14,300. in 85. It looks newer than my brothers 2000 tacoma king cab. in other words its mint.

Just because fuel pump is working doesn't mean fuel is making it into the cylinders. Some dirt could have clogged the line somewhere somehow. If you're getting spark, make sure you're getting fuel before going any further. You can do this yourself, just crank on it for about 4 seconds and get out and pull a plug and see if it's wet and gassy smelling.
Oh yeah, and I'd love to see some pics. Sounds like you have a real jewel there.

Have you tried the simple stuff like doing a distributor cap and rotor? Cap fully set in place? Wires in good shape and not pulled apart at an end?
I know you said it had a tune up, but sometimes what people call a tune up doesn't match up with what one should be. It could be the coil, EFI fuse, ignitor, dead AFM...all sorts of stuff. It could also just be a bad battery wire not getting juice to the ignition.
Anybody have a quick wiring schematic on the '86? I don't remember if they have a separate lead from the positive battery terminal to the ignition. I do know that I have fixed this same problem on a couple vehicles before that had been checked over and people couldn't figure out why they weren't getting spark.
Sometimes it is the simple things that hang you up.
Hopefully, somebody with more brain power than me hooks you up with the solution

Thanks for the input. Ill have to pull a plug and check. Just odd it would just quit. Checked EfI fuses and fuses in box on pass sid. Plenty of spark i was told. Its stumping mechanics so far.People who pull motors and put them back in LOL.etc. But they did look at it somewhat hurriedly. I should post some pics. Think of a 2004 tacoma king cab and then change the date to 1986. I still cannot believe it but toyota sales did a car fax and it checked out okay for mileage. 40 K when i bought it. All i know is when its at 60 and one touches the accelerator it flys to 90 darn quick and no hint of quitting topping out. I didnt know i was buying a "corvette" when i bought this truck. I have another vehicle so i was in now hurry to send it to the shop to get "stuck". I ,ll post if I get a chance , no pictures of it now though. Like i said it was running great the day before and the mileage was 20 mpg in town. Has a new fuel filter 2k miles ago. Yes same thing happened to my turbo diesel car but at least at gave me some warning and wouldnt go over 55 so I knew to change it out. Five dollar filter for it and easy change out{5 min}. Yes the plug is a little wet when cranking for 4 seconds. I saw the original invoice for the truck $14.232.in 1985 he bought it in Sacramento. I think this was adding tax etc. I bought this truck because i saw the abuse my brother gave his 1986 basic carb model and i just couldnt believe that it wouldnt quit.

How did you check it for fuel?
I had a 22re stop dead on me and I spent a bunch of time trying to figure it out. I finally pulled the fuel filter, stuffed a hose onto the end of one fuel line and ran it into a catch can; cranked the motor and nada. When the electric fuel pump quits, it really quits.

Yes 451 that could be the problem. The truck sat for a long time before i bought it and it is old . Its a beauty though. Plenty of spark for an old gal.
