Starting Problem? Need Help
Hey All
Got some problems. Last night I had my heater on and shut the car off left for 2 hours returned and tried to start the car. wouldnt even kick over or click. however the battery was still good and all of the power stuff worked. I turned the heater switch to off and it still had the same prob 10 mins later I was able to start the truck without any problems. I had a simuliar incident one month ago but it was when I had the AC on and it wouldnt even start even with a jump however 30 mins later it started without any problems?? go figure any tips??
thanks Big K

I've had my 99 4runner for about 1 day now, almost, and have experienced this problem twice. It only haapens when it's cold. The batterie's good. It has 77K miles on it. I try to start it, and nothing happens, then wait 5 seconds and try it again and it starts. Very bizzarre and is making me question whether or not I need to renig on this contract. If anyone can help me i'd reall appreciate it. It could be the starter, could be some relay somewhere, or could be the ECU or anything between, and that could get expensive I would imagine.

there are some very recent threads on starter problems with exactly the symptoms you describe - it's most likely the brushes, which can be rebuilt or just R&R the whole starter
