starting an engine swap. need some help
Ok so im new to this and this will be my first engine swap. I have a 2004 Tacoma 3.4l 5vz-fe that just bit the dirt. I bought another 5vz-fe to put in it and make things simple. However the engine I bought is slightly different then the one I had. The question I have first is in the wire harness. I noticed the new motor has censors that my old one didn't and the harness has a sticker with the number 24 on it while my old on has a 84 on it. will I be able to put this motor in the truck using the old wire harness? If not what needs to be done to get it to work. Also the oil filter on the new motor is near the back of the engine while the old motor has it toward the front. Why is this motor different but yet supposed to be the same 5vz-fe engine.

The engine blocks themselves should be basically the same. So just swap over all the external parts from your engine to the new one.
Take lots of pictures of both before you start. Your goal is to make the new engine look exactly like your old one with all the same sensors/wires/external components ect.
Then it should bolt right in.
