Starter Problem

I know that this has been discussed numerous times but I want to get your opinion on my problem. Sometimes when I start my 4runner it starts up just fine. other times I turn it over and hear one click and then nothing, the power stays on It just wont turn. and finally some other times it will try to turn over for a while then stop. What do you guys think is the issue?

You nailed it. Since the power is continuously charged when you attempt to start the car you can rule out the alternator. I have the same exact problem with mine. All you have to do is swap the starter and you'll be good. Don't flood the system if it doesn't turn on immediately, a few turns and holding it every 30 seconds to a minute will get it going. But this issue will get worse and worse until it goes out, just go ahead and get it replaced while you can still drive it to the shop

Could it be the contacts are bad, I've heard that's a pretty simple fix

try the starter contacts first, they are cheap and easy. if that doesnt do it, then get a new starter.

I just put new contacts on my starter this weekend. It was super simple and only cost me $9.50 with tax. When you take off the three screws, and the contacts look worn down, you know you need new ones. It was weird though, one side looked worse then the other side, but I replaced both.
