Starter contact repair
Newbie here. I did the starter contact repair yesterday. I was getting the clicking after turning the key. Even though the starter looked brand new, the positive side contact was almost worn through.
I used the instructions from Adam Fertig on www.4x4wire.com His write up seemed to be the most accurate for my vehicle. He talks about a 3/8" extension of 1 1/2 ft to get to the front bolt. I Piggybacked a 10" and a 3" and used a deep socket to get the length.
I had ordered the contacts from Roger Brown's Site http://4crawler.cruiserpages.com/4x4 They worked great!!!
It is a tight fit trying to get the starter out but, with some pushing of wires out of the way it came out of the passenger side wheel well. I couldn't help saying "It's a 5lb baby toyota starter".
Note: Invest in a telescoping magnet. I dropped a lot of bolts that I just could not reach. Total repair time was about 3hrs
