Started truck (been sitting for 6 hours) it wouldnt automatically shift to 1st gear?
this is the second time it has happened in the past 5 months.
Ill drive to work at around 7 AM -- 5 or 6 hours later at noon or 1 Im ready for lunch and everything starts perfectly but when I put her in D and give it gas, it feels SUPER SUPER SUPER sluggish, first time I was like WTH and (checked the brakes, got out looked for binding etc etc) 10 minutes later and it was fine. This time I put the automatic tranny down to L and voila it worked, I was zooming away. So Im almost 99% positive it was just in 2nd gear....
Is this some kind of indicator? and mind you its 78-85 degrees outside its pretty warm days over here in VA.

Jimmy,
I have had this a couple of times with my old 96.
In my case, it was water in and or around the park/neutral switch which is on the outside of the transmission.
I just let it dry out.
In your case, you may have a switch that goes bad ...switches or sensors with intermittent internal failures are a bear... at just the right temp, the 'foil' that is used for contacts may expand/contract or bend just enough to go open circuit or closed circuit when it should not.
As I am sure you know, the AT ECU looks at a ton of stuff to decide when to shift .
