SR-5 Fuel Gauge

Well, I just did the SR5 instrument cluster swap on my 86 pickup. I was wondering if anyone can tell me if the fuel gauge is suppose to return to empty when the key is turned off, or does it only move down as you use the fuel up in the tank? Everthing else works fine, but I don't want to leave it in till I know about this fuel gauge. Anyone out there with this setup that can HELP me out, it will be greatly appreciated.

It's supposed to stay where it's at when the key is in the 'off' position. It goes down slowly as you use up the fuel.

Edit: As you see in the pic, the battery charge is 0 (which means the key is off), but the fuel is showing "data".

My guage goes down to empty when the key is out of the "on" position. Whenever it's in the on position it will show the approx. amount of furl in the tank.....

Yours is a 2nd gen though. I got the above image from eBay (best one I could find) and that got me to believe it stays up. I personally don't own a 1st gen, my 3rd gen stays up too though...

Some do, some don't, means nada. As long as it reads how much fuel is in the tank (or more importantly, is correct down near the empty mark )when the key is on, that's all that counts. Mine stays where it is with the key off. My F150 goes to zero....
