I did a bit of researching, but haven't found anything concrete yet. Anyways I have a 1999 tacoma, supercharged v6 with a 5 speed transmission. As of late, I have been having issues with the clutch/trans squealing (like a loose fan belt) when I am getting out of first gear. Once I am completely out of the clutch and driving, it is fine. When I am in neutral, there is no difference in noise with the clutch pushed in or not (everything is fine).

Thoughts? Im going to drop the trans tomorrow and more than likely replace the pilot bearing and throw out bearing. The clutch seems to be fine as it grabs fine with no signs of slipping.

Any input would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Were you able to drop your tranny yet? Any findings? I have a similar issue going on - grinding/squealing noise when in neutral and clutch in so does it whenever I shift. Just replaced the clutch 15K miles ago along with release bearing and pilot bearing. Kinda thinking it is the piot bearing since all is quiet when in gear and clutch engaged....Good luck!

This won't help any but my '85 Celica used to make a weird squealing noise sometimes when I was in neutral at a stop light unless I pushed the clutch in or was in gear driving. I never figured it out, it was sporadic and the fix was easy (push in the clutch!).

Have you dropped the trans yet? I've had similar noises in the past and it was time for a new clutch. In my case the friction disc was toast.
