Squeaky belt

Every time I start my truck I get a nasty squeak from the belt, (Drives me nuts.) After initial start up it may or may not squeak. This never happened before until I got stuck in a nasty mud hole. (Unfortunately I had to abandon it overnight until I could get it out.) I have cleaned the engine bay and inspected all the pulleys and components which seem fine, I have sprayed the belts down with belt dressing. I have replaced my belts within in the past 30,000 miles prior. You can definitely tell I like to play outdoors by looking at the belts but, never had this issue before. Should I just replace my belts or are there other things i should look into. Just wondering because I love my Toyota... Any input would be greatly appreciated. My guess is probably just be new belts. But wanted further input or ideas. Thanks..

(By the way the bighorns suck in clay and do not clear out Which was the bottom of the pit.) For those wondering here is a pic.. I got stuck mainly because of my trailer hitch dragging the mud and open diffs.. Other than that the vehicle did good.)

usually the squeak is the alternator if the alt belt is slipping the alt will squeal, check your belt tension, could be a little loose. i changed my alt and after i put it back on my belt squeald cuz i didint pull it tight enough

x2 on the alternator belt...The alternator is under heavy load at start-up. I've also had this issue and found that non-Toyota belts do not hold tension as well as OEM belts. After a month or so of installing new belts, I began having the squeal at startup (mostly after a rain or snow shower). I battled this for about a year (continually re-tightening the alt belt) until I had my timing belt changed, and I had them install Toyota belts. That was about 6 months ago...so far so good.

dirt and water make it slip, and that will go away

OR, it may slip and get glazed. then the squeak will never go away

new belts are needed if they get glazed. you can try buffing them with 100 grit
but I have no idea if it will work or if I am talking out my butt

I changed my belts last night and tightened everything up...am I correct to see only 1 bolt (on top) on the alternator that makes it pivot? I've tightened mine up, but still squealling on start ups.

That is correct. How tight is the ALT belt. About 1/4" deflection should be good.

Before changing your belts, did you give the pulley(s) a good lookover to check for rust, etc.? If not, that may be the problem. Take a brass, not steel, brush to them for cleaning.

I recently got the scoop and and now have a squeal on start-up if the vehicle sits for a while. Never happened before the hood scoop. If it does squeal, it does it for maybe 5-10 sec. I also have a digital volt meter inside, and while it's squealing, the battery voltage is at 11.5 v and as soon as the squealing stopsm the voltage goes above 12 and rpms go up also as soon as the squeak stops. Alternator belt?

Also, this is pretty cool.
