grease or graphite the little shaft that completes the horn circuit. the sound you hear is that part which is spring loaded rubbing on teh back plate of the steering wheel. simple fix

When my '88 had a bad squeak in the steering wheel it was because of some of the horn components.

There is a metal ring on the backside of the steering wheel that rotates with the steering wheel. On the steering column side there is a spring-loaded contact that presses against the ring on the back of the steering wheel. These two pieces making contact is what gets the electrical current to and from the horn button. The metal on metal contact was making the squeaking sound, especially when it was cold outside.

Get some dielectric grease from the parts store and smear some on. That fixed my problem.

It's real easy to get to. Just take off the plastic housing around the steering column and you can get to it.

Mine used to do the same thing. It turned out that it is this plastic piece in the engine compartment. Follow the steering shaft and it is located just before it attaches to the steering box. Some WD-40 should stop the squeak.
