The Sound of What Dying???

I have an '86 4Runner w/ automatic tranny.

With any healthy amount of throttle I get a harsh rattling sound when the tranny shifts for about 2 seconds before the shift at the peak RPM. Once the shift happens, the sound immediately stops.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Warren

I've got a 94 and it does the same thing. I've just stopped worrying about it since it doesn't seem to do any damage. However Im getting the tranny rebuilt sometime (this summer hopefully) and I'll let you know if it stops or not.

Another thought....

Do you have any places in your exhaust where it might rattle?

I don't think so, however I do have a hole in the manifold , but all I think that does is give a bad exhaust sound.
