So I recently posted pics of my new '96 2wd 4runner.

Here is my problem... besides looking all stock and low to the ground, the rear suspension especially seems to be too low. The rear bump stops have maybe 1.5" of downward travel before bottoming out. This makes for some rough riding manners sometimes. I would like to remedy the rough ride and I think taller springs and new appropriate shocks should do the trick.

I think the sonoran steel 3.0 kit is what I need. I guess before I purchase I just want to make sure I am not missing anything or am going to be disappointed in the results. I understand the 3.0 kit when installed on my particular 4runner is going to give me 2" of lift over what I currently have. I just have a hard time visualizing and am wondering if that's gonna be enough for me. The current tires are 265/70/16. I think after the lift I would probably go up to a 265/75/16. I am pretty sure even with the lift that is all the tire I can fit correct?

Should I go larger than a sonoran steel 3.0 kit? I just cant decide! I think I need to hear from others that have purchased the 3.0 kit. Pics would be great. I have searched but hard to find what i am looking for specifically. I guess pics of a 99 4wd 4runner or a 96 2wd w/ a SS 3.0 kit installed.

265/75/16 will be the max you will fit. It depends on what you want from your vehicle. I suggest you search a bit more before you purchase. I have a 99 and the stock suspension was good, but I wouldnt pay 600 for it with other options out there.

well I have been searching quite a bit.... what other options would you suggest. I want the best ride quality I can get. I guess my biggest concern is like you said I am paying a lot of money for a essentially stock suspension and I dont know if it will be tall enough for me.

Have you considered the 1.2? From what it sounds like, any upgrade is going to ride better than your current setup, and from what I've heard, the SS 1.2 rides very well. Also, you won't have to worry about not being tall enough.

Keep in mind that your tire upgrade is going to give you a tad more height as well (around an inch I think?)

Well many have gone with the OME setup as well. 906 in the rear is going to give you a little bit more than the 99's but they are a way heavier duty spring.
And if you go to 265/75 from 265/70 you will only bring your ride height up by ~0.5 inch
Decide the max height you want, the size tire you want, and your price point,

I love my 1.2 btw. If you want it level, go for the 7. The 1.2 levels out with a full load in it, and that is perfect. The Bilsteins are great shocks.

What is the "Rear Fix for 2WD 4Runners (2WD Package only)" that the SS 3.0 kit advertises that I need??????

Anybody know what the rear fix is for 2wd 4runners? Do I need it? I am looking at other options like a toytec 3" lift using spacers in the front and OME coils in the back and toytec extended length shocks in the back.

Seems most of my rough ride is in the back anyway.

but what is the rear fix the SS kit fixes?

I know it is twice as much but I have the SS 7.2 on both my 2001 2wd and my 2001 4wd 4runners. I am running 285/75s (~33") Goodyear MTRs on both trucks. The ride is great and you can't get much better than Steve @ Sonoran Steel. He definitely knows his stuff and puts together a quality package. I'd suggest saving up a little longer and going with either the 7.2 or the 1.2 (if you tow, have a steel rear bumper, or if you carry heavy).

Since you have a 2wd, and bc you don't absolutely NEED the clearance, I wouldn't spend all the money on the SS1.2 or 7.2. Don't get me wrong they are awesome kits and provide great suspension but I think you will be just as happy with the OEM '99 springs from the 3.0. Search around and maybe you can find someone selling some before you go through Sonoran. On another note, you can go with toytec front spacers and some OME rear coils. It's good for the price. If money isn't an option then I guess go for whatever makes you happy. Don't forget you can always add a body-lift too.
