someone please confirm this information about wheels

i am looking at the procomp 97 series wheels in the 16x8, 6x5.5, 4.0 bs
they will be for my 98 4runner with factory 16" wheels. this is what i got from 4wheelparts:

The only steel wheels that will fit the $runner is the 87 series. Both the 51 series and the 97 series will hit the caliper. Please contact our sales dept if you would like to order a set.

can someone please verify this for me. i know they are not the best place for info, but ttora's information is scattered and hard to follow at best.

thanks!

well if the wheel will hit the caliper then there isn't much you can do accept get spacers. ON an " wide wheel with 4" backspacing that means the hub will be directly center. That doesnt have much to do with anything accept for you may want to know if you buy those wheels and have you use spacers to clear your calipers then the wheel will be sticking out even more. I would definitely make sure this is a look you want.

If hitting the calipers is what you are worried about then you can measure how far out past the hub the calipers stick out and then how far about the center bore of the hub they actually are. take those measure meants and apply them to the wheel. If they say they will hit then chances are they will right?

I cant image the stock 16" wheels are only clearing the calapers by 1/4" or less.

i would think if its a 16" wheel then the ID's would be at least within a 1/4" or so.

i see no reason why one 16" wheel would fit and another wouldnt!

i am just confused. i would think that a 16" wheel will fit a truck that came with 16" wheels. i made it a point to tell them that i already have the 16's, and that i am just trying to replace with black steels.

i know there is a massive thread over on ttora about going from 16" down to a 15", but that is not my case. i was just hoping that there are others who have run these wheels already, and that can confirm.

well its just becaue of spoke design really... Im not saying that I know it won't fit. But if someone has tried (this company that sells them) and knows they hit the caliper and it isnt so wide/crazy offsets as to bang other things then it has to be the atual design of the wheel not flaring out enough to clear the big brakes.

That is why 15" don't fit on ours... they are big enough to clear over the brakes and the wheel its just that the clearance is pretty close and when you decrease by 1" then it brings the spokes close enough to hit the caliper.

Not all 16" wheels are equal guys, thats for sure. 15" runners can run 16" wheels, that is not the case. Its about the actualy design of the wheel hitting your big brakes.

interesting. looks like i will have to go to wheelers then even though i like the 97 series better because of the number of wholes, and because 4wheelcustoms (where i was going to buy them from) was cheaper on shipping by about $60.

oh well.
