Question somebody tell me whats going on...

okay i will try my hardest to explain what is happening so that somebody can help me out. For the last few days when i accelerate from a stop it feels as if my rear end is slipping. Tranny? Maybe. I looked at my tranny fluid and it was pretty low so i added about half a quart. Starting today it increased doing this and continues to have almost a - pulsating slip-? throughout the powerband and into third gear. almost as if there is something wrong with the engine? the only reason i think it isnt the transmission is because whenever my tranny has slipped in the past, my revs go really high and then it catches, and i jolt forward. this was only a problem in first gear though. "pulsating slip" is the only way i can describe this because its feels like a bunch of small slips. i would take it to a mechanic but i dont know of any trustworthy ones in my town so i figured id put it up here first. think its time to start saving for a new tanny? oh and by the way its a 97 4runner with 4wd and 100,000 miles.

100K miles eh? When was the last time the tranny filter was changed? generally a 'slip' in an auto tranny indicates low fluid pressure. Torque Converters usually don't go bad unless you really hammer on them.

the fluid was down that much because i rolled the truck a few months back and it was upside down for about ten minutes and im assuming that a lot of it drained out. hmmm i havent sniffed my dipstick recently hehe... is there a smell i should be aware of? but it really does slip all the way through the powerband and in all gears. usually when a tranny slips its in just one gear to start with right? and if i am coasting at about 40-50 and lightly gas it, the car kinda knocks. im really confused about what it can be. i put it in neutral and revved it a lot to see if the engine was messed up and misfiring, but it seemed normal. also anyone know of any good trustworthy mechanics in the albuquerque area? i dont really trust people around here....
