solution to weak rear speakers in 03 ?

I just wondered if anyone had found a solution to the weak sound coming from the rear speakers/sub-woofer in the 2003 4Runner? It appears to be very prevalent and someone even mentioned there was a TSB although I (and others) can't find it anywhere. I've temporarily gotten around it by severely adjusting the fader but I don't think that should be a final solution. Something is definitely wrong.

Anyone gotten this fixed?
Thanks,
John

the only way you will be really happy is with a new strong amp and some bostons all around. That stock system will never do it for you no matter what you do to it.

My 03 sounds pretty good for a stock system.

The sub works up to a point and the rear speakers really only add rear fill.

A well designed aftermarket system rarely uses the rears for anything other than fill as the the front locations will always give the best imaging for the driver.

I am working on a full boat 3 amp system with replacement front speakers, new custom sub and enclosure and a DVD system that ties in with the stock head unit and the stock the rear seat audio.

This gives me the nice steering wheel controls and multimode rear seat audio AND the stealth aspect of a stock head unit.

I know it will not be as sharp as an aftermarket head unit (I have a $1000 Clarion unit I took out of my 99) but I just don't want to lose the stock head unit yet.

I don't plan on doing anything with the rear speakers at all, they will just run off the stock amp for rear fill.

I will document as I go along but specs to date are...

JL audio 500/1
2 off JL Audio 250/1
2 Boston Component Audio 6.5's
Custom sub enslosure
10" (10W6v2) JL audio sub
Clarion active X-over network
Alpine DVD/CD changer
Rosen 6x9 Drop down monitor

In short, I think given the fact that the factory system has a single amp rated at best at 200W driving 10 speakers vs the fact that I will have to use 1000W to drive 6 with 500 just for the sub, you will never be happy until you upgrade.

I will keep surfing for a TSB but I have alldatapro access and have not seen one yet,

David

There is a adapter that allows you to use a aftermarket headunit with the stock steering wheel controls-

Jgs,

That is great info man !

I see my Clarion HX-D10 Limited may re-surface in the 03 and let me tell you, its a beast.

Pre-amp outputs only, 3 pre outs at 4.5v including bass control (volume, Xover etc) from the head unit.

The CD section is the cleanest I have ever heard....I think I may have to get me one of them !

Thanks Dude

Hey guys, what is the blank on the other side of the steering wheel for?
The left side is for the radio controls but the right side...does it have something on the Limited?
I was thinking if they made buttons for that side I could wire it up to make coffee or something

Unfortunately (or fortunately) there isn't anything on the right side of the limited. Wire it for the ejector seat!
