What shocks are softer. Skyjacker hydro or Procomp ES3000s. both of them cost 32 bucks each. I have tried ranchos and they are too stiff and rusted really fast. OME's are too expensive. I want the softer of the two.

Tokico Trekmasters are way rougher than you are looking for. My Rancho RS 5000's are very nice. Check out the Monroe Sensa Tracks too.

I have Rancho RSX's... you probably had the 5000's. I like my shocks a lot... they are self adjusting, so they aren't too stiff or soft.

nitro shocks are really firm....not good for a soft ride unless you carry loads or plan on flying supe fast.

OEM and those can be had for about $25 a shock.

i have sensatracs all the way around. over bumpy and uneven roads these shocks can be stiff. i plan on getting bilsteins later in the future.

Another vote for Skyjacker Nitros. Most Nitros are fairly stuff but Skyjacker is all about the softride suspension, so their Nitros are pretty comfy.

I was thinking about sensatracs or the reflex. Anybody else think they are rough, or have any experience with their ride. I have rancho 5000's and they are very rough.

i have procomp es300s and i got them on purpose instead of their otehr ones.. i love the ride they provide... nice and soft...

The Reflex are stiffer than the sensatracs, they a heavy duty shock. i say KYB GR-2's They are about 10% stiffer than stock. but if cheap and soft is the goal then get Monroe LT's they have a lifetime warrenty.

Nitro shocks will often add a bit of lift because they are typically stiff. You can't compress them by hand like you can a regular shock.

I had rancho 5000's went to bilstein 5100s and I gained about a half inch in height and the ride got real harsh.

I run nitrocharged shocks now, btu the valving is adjustable and I also lowered the pressure of the nitro charge. But these are 300.00 shocks, so the ride quality is abit different.

If I wanted softer shocks I think I'd just go back to the OEM shocks. They do the trick, they're cheap to replace and they work. They aren't a bad ride quality at all either. Quite comfortable (for a truck) actually. I can compress them easily by hand. My Bilsteins I couldn't compress by hand. Subsequently you can tell my Bilsteins are a bit firmer than the OEM's I used to have on my truck.

Thanks for all the responces. OEM is not an option for me. My 4Runner is lifted about 3 inches so I need a shock I can order in longer lengths. I think im going to try the skyjacker's. A friend of mine has them on his lifted cherokee and it rides great.

I have heard from a few other sources that nitro shocks will be a little more "harsh" over the small stuff. But they will not fade under high speed use. All the wheeling I do is at slow speeds and I never do any jumping or anything like that. Knowing that, is there any other reason I may want the nitros over the hydros?

All I can say is that I went from OEM to Skyjacker Nitros and dont regret it a bit. My runner is my DD and only sees trails a few times a month. Most of my time is on the road and I coudln't be happier with the ride. Off road is 100% better. If its any stiffer ride, I dont notice it and I'm sure no one else would.
