So the new Toyota got hit in the rear yesterday

So here I am sitting at a light minding my own business when this lady blasts in to the rear of my truck at 30mph.

Nice huh?

So my rear bumper is shoot and so is on tailight, it moved the box off to one side, pushed the box in to the cab.

So I was thinking of taking the money I would be getting for the bumper and my tail gate ( I have a perfect used one laying around) and spending it on a new set of bumpers or something for my truck.

it's a 2002 TRD Tacoma, with 31's and a westin bar, thats about it for the moment.

I tow waverunners and boats with my truck, need a strong raer bumper for towing. and would like a nice front brush guard that I can mount a winch.

Or do you guys have a better sugesstion on what to spend that extra money?

I also have a double tube rear bumper laying aroound that looks like it would mount on to my rig. and it has a nice trailer hitch setup.
Should I just use this and spend my money on other stuff?

I will be droping off my truck Friday to be repaired

Are you sure the frame is ok?

I would get new bumpers. For the front I would avoid a brush guard and go for an ARB bumper instead (will work for a winch).

I hope the car that hit you got smashed to hell.

ARB bumpers would be very nice, I don't see many Tacos here with them. What about an OME lift kit?

Get yourself a marlin crawler, or 4xinovations rear bumper, and some sort of front bumper (4x, shrockworks, arb, tjm, or custom like me )

A caution about putting a winch on a brush guard.
It could rip your front bumper off

Like previously stated, Get an arb

Um I think your truck could be totaled or close to it. Body shops are very expensive these days. You say your bed it not straight which could mean frame damage and whatever damage that was caused when the bed hit the cab. A collision at 30mph when you are sitting still is very serious even in a truck.

Well it looks like the insurance company will be taking care of everything, the truck is on the frame rack right now getting measured, im sure will need a little straightning, but not much it wasn't horriable.
I will be making sure the truck is perfect before I take it back.

I found a guy in town here that makes custom toyota bumpers, basicly copies of the ARB's so I might be going with him, he has a ton of happy cust's around here.

I don't see them totaling out my truck since it will be under 7K in damage
the rear bumper took most of the impact and folded perfect under the truck.

The other rig was a yukon, the sucky part was the lady had two young kids in the back seat, she was 4 mths pregnant.

My first words were Fuc*&k I just bought this thing, and next words were dammn that hurt.

But my whole attitude changed when we pulled in to the parking lot, I saw the kids and then saw that she was pregnant.
Then my whole attitude was are you ok? and sit down and I will make sure your kids are ok.

Thank god her and the kids were ok! I didn't care about my truck, I figured they built tons of the toyotas, but only one of a human life.

looks can be decieving.

unfortunately, I think there is some minor to moderate frame damage. might have a diamond (frame skews forward on one side), and/or a side sway is possible too (frame is pushed to one side or another). and I'd almost be positive that one frame rail sits higher than the other (judging by how your bumper is folded up in like that).

I say this because my truck was hit just like that, exactly. my bed didn't hit my cab that hard, and it def. caused some extensive frame damage. but my bed was completely rippled down both sides (where the metal sort of folded accordion style), and the bumper was crushed right into the bed corner. the weld on the pan that connects the two sides below the bed there on mine was split, I had it welded, but it split again... I had my frame straightened, but it was bent beyond repair, so its still a little off. thats why I have a donor frame in my driveway haha.

I say minor to moderate though because my truck looked like a banana and yours looks pretty straight. if it's on a frame rack though, we'll know soon enough. with any kind of luck, its just the bed mounts, or needs a small amount of pulling.

best of luck to you and keep us posted!

I agree...I think there will be some moderate damage to the frame..I work for an insurance company and work with accidents daily. The fact that your box has actually pushed into the cab...tells me the frame has shifted a significate amount do to the inertia applied at the time of the accident. The box is welded onto the frame it's self. So your defintely going to have a heafty estimate on your hands. Lucky you have a Toyota and they hold there value.
Good luck! Whats your deductible if you don't mind me asking?

Man that is a shame! Your truck looks identical to mine, but mine isn't 4x4.

And that was very cool of you to think about her and those little kids. But damn, she needs to be a hell of a lot more careful!

That reminds me years ago when I watched my brother get into an accident. I was following behind him and saw a car pull out in front of him. He slammed on his brakes but it was too late. After we pushed his car into a nearby parking lot I went over to the other car ready to tear the persons head off. It turned out to be some really old guy with a small girl in the passenger seat, which immediately cooled me down. That guy should not have been driving at such a busy time of the day, but luckily everyone was ok.

Sorry about the truck man. I let my brother drive mine for a day a few years ago. He was gone 30mins when he called saying my truck was totaled! I asked him how bad it was, but he had not got out of the truck yet. He could just see a Nissan Altima UNDERNEATH the rearend of my truck. Somehow it just scratched my bumper, but it did total the woman's car. Same type accident as yours. People need to slow down while they're driving, my wife was rear-ended twice in 8 days in her Corrolla.

Thanks everyone!

I knew from day one that the frame was going to be out, the box up at the cab sits about .5 inch out on the drivers side, the bed was pushed in to the cab, left damage on both sides of the cab where the box shoved in to it and then went back in to place (kind of)
it also looked raised slightly in the rear from the impact
and the bumper bracket folded badly, where the bumper conects to the frame is twisted slightly.

I am only dealing with their insurance, I don't need to pay a deductable on my rig, but it is $500.00
they started the personal injury claim also....The idots came out to my house two days after the accident and TRIED to offer me $1,100 for pain and suffering and missing work. I told them to go $%^# them selfs.

my god I went to the ER with spine pain and I am still hurting pretty bad today, they wanted to settle....WTF?

They pissed me off pretty good and I am going to contact my attorney and have him take care of it. and settle probally in a few years when the pain goes away.

I have the truck at my Cousins body shop.
He only works on referals, does frame up restores.
I have had him do the paint job on my 93 Corrado VR6 before and it turned out like a MILLION bucks!

So he will have it for like 3 weeks, is taking his time with it, making sure that it will be completlly perfect before I get it back.

And they gave me a 2008 Nissan Frontier for a loaner (decent truck but no Toyota)

And my cousin is going to cash me out on the rear bumper so I put what ever bumper I want on it now that will be nice!

so thats it for now

I don't know about WA, but most states have a statute of limitations on the length of time you can wait before filing a "pain and suffering" type deal (NJ was 2 years as an example)

Also, you want to go to a "soft tissue specialist" to really get looked at, not just your regular family doctor.
