Now, what tires to get. I thought I was going to go with 32x11.5s on the stocker wheels. Now I'm wondering if I can go larger. I know the board says I "should" re-gear if I decide to go 33s, but do I really HAVE to? Can I even fit 33x12.5s on the stock wheels?

FYI - this is not my daily driver.

You don't have to re-gear, its going to be slower though. Just know that and you can always re-gear later. Espcially if its not your DD. If your going 4" your definatley going to want the 33s though. 32s would look small. My 285s looked perfect for the 2.5/2.75 of lift. I think the 33s might even look a little small, but I could be wrong...

I'm running 4" lift with 33x12.5s and stock gearing. It works fine for me.

I'll probably have to invest in new wheels though eh? I just got off the tele with Firestone and they say 33s probably wouldn't fit the 15x7 wheels. Can anyone else verify that? I really don't want to invest in new wheels at this time.

What does backspacing mean?

Vtec Killer: shop around locally for those rims before you buy them nline and wait a month for them. $250 is not a great price on them. I got mine for $59 each CAD at a local tire shop called Kal tire. Again thats canadian so if i've done my math right i think thats like $1.13 each U.S..

Long story short, shop around.

Wheelers also has steel wheels at decent prices. I don't know how good/bad they are.

Backspacing, roughly, is the relationship between the the ceterline of the rim and mouting surface of the wheel.

I may have mis-spoken. What I have described above is actually known as offset. I don't know how offset and backspacing are related. They may be the same.

a 12.5" wide tire on stock rims will rub quite a bit on the stock a-arms, so you'll need to do something about that. IMO, 32s will look too small with 4" of lift. I had 32" ATs with stock gearing (3.90s) and upgraded to 33" MTs. IMO, the 33s are too much for the stock gearing.

What gears do you have, and are you talking about a 33" AT or MT?

Backspacing is the distance from the backside of the wheel to the mounting surface at the hub. So if you placed a board acoss the backside of the wheel, you would measure from there to the mounting surface. Know that with any of the 4" bracket kits you will need to run 3.75" or less backspacing.

I have no idea what gears I have. It's an automatic.

I want to go with the 33" MT.

The Runner will be driven every once in a while during the week, but just back and forth from work. ~5 miles total driving distance. I don't mind the loss in power for freeway speeds...

Right now, the plan looks like a 4" lift like 4RunnerKid's and the wheels from wheelersoffroad.com. The tires I'd like to get are either the BFG MT or Firestone Destination MT.

OK, I am lost...with this backspacing... I upgraded to 265 75/ 18's on my stock 1999 limited wheels. Should have I done anything else with them with the mounting???

I would like to have my wheels stick out alittle farther to match up with the body molds that wrap around the fenders... any way of doing this without buying spacers?

I assume you're thinking about 33/12.5-15s. If the newer 3rd gens are the same as the older 3rd gens, then you are probably geared differently than the 16" wheeled trucks. For gearing, you should probably be thinking about either 4.56s or 4.88s, depending on what your stock gearing is - I would tend to think 4.88s would be your best bet, especially if it's not your daily driver.

Sure, buy another set of wheels with lower backspacing. Your stock wheels wont cut it.
