Side-to-Side Rocking

About 4 weeks ago my TRD developed a roll whenever I drive over dips in the road. I've checked the shocks by bouncing the 4 corners, but I never get more than a small, one-time-rebound out of them.

And all four have about 10K on them.

This problem becomes more serious the faster I go. The last 70K miles were problem-free. The anti-sway bar has poly-bushings, so I don't think that's the cause.

No front-to-back motion, just side to side, nice and even, 3 or 4 times when it occurs at 65+ mph. Put you to sleep. Where would be a good place to start looking?

1998 TRD with 70K on the clock and a manual transmission.

Check out the sway bar links. They are a little verticle rod connecting LCA to sway bar. I just bought a 1999 LTD T4R and after getting new tires & alignment I felt it was still really squirrly and bouncy on the road. Especially if i hit a little dip, it seemed to take a lot longer to settle than I expected.

I crawled underneath and low and behold the driver side sway bar link was broken. It wasn't completely broken and at cursory glance looked good, but the top nut had broken off. So sitting in the driveway everything looked good, but there was nothing keeping the link connected to the sway bar.

I replaced both sides (I always do suspension parts in pairs) and it made a world of difference. The links are $20-30 a piece and can be done w/ the truck on the ground. Just spray some pb blast on the nuts once a day a couple of days before removing. And make sure you have a 6mm allen wrench, proper size sockets (replacements were different than OE), 14mm open end wrench and a pair of vice grips (allen nut stripped on one side).

All in all it wasn't bad, maybe an hour. The hardest part is getting the old rusted nuts off.
