anybody know where the fuse for power side mirrors on a 1994 4runner is?

According to my FSM the mirrors use the radio fuse, 7.5 Amp in the fuse block behind the driver side kick panel. That's for a 95, so I would imagine a 94 would be the same.

any ideas what could cause them to not work besides the fuse?

Bad Switch perhaps, broken/frayed wire. Relay?

ajz399, if you figure out the problem, be sure to post it on here. I'm in the same situation- good radio fuse, both mirrors worked a few months ago, now neither works.

I have the same problem. Radio fuse is good, mirrors just quit working. Any help appreciated -thanx MK

I'd pop out the switch and see if it's got voltage. If yes, then something is crudding up the contacts in the switch. Likely the selector for right, left or no mirror since neither mirror is working. The switch comes apart real easily BUT there's a little spring and ball inside. Don't lose them.

Thanx Steve, sounds like a logical place to start. Does the switch pop out from the top without taking the entire door panel apart? Just had it off and can't get armrest with switches to come off seperately, screwed in from back to the panel itself. Thanx -MK

I think you have to take the assembly off the door panel. Then the switches snap out from the back side. I've had this same problem with the rear window switch and door window switches. There are thin metal contacts inside that can be cleaned with an eraser or very gentle sanding. Take the switch apart carefully and clean with simple green or dishwashing soap. This gets all the gunk out. Then clean the contacts, put in a little white lithium grease and put it back together. It's been over a year since I did mine. I forget if the spring and ball make the four way adjuster switch work or if they're the slider mechinism for the left/right mirror select. Just take it apart slowly. It's not under very much tension. The spring won't fire out but the ball will roll away - it's tiny. Open it over a large container so anything that rolls out will be caught.

Thanx Steve, Hope you're feeling better. I've been to the hospital twice over the years with food poisening, no picnic! (pun intended)
I took apart the switch. It will come out from the top if you gently pry it up with a small screwdriver. Cleaned the contacts, checked for power coming in and that mirrors hadn't gotten unplugged from inside door. Fuses all looked good, power is coming to switch and switch looks good inside. Still no mirror movement. Guess it's time to consult the professionals ($$$$) and let them troubleshoot. Thanx again -MK

That's weird. You'd think if power is going to the switch - and not making it to the mirrors, that the switch is at fault. What year is your vehicle. I have the service manuals for 1995 including the schematics. I'll look tonight and see where potential problem areas are if you'd like. I'm feeling better. Thanks. No more chicken tacos from the el cheapo Mexican food place!

My runner is a '93 SR5 limited. Thanx in advance for checking you'r manual. I'm wondering if there's an inline fuse or breaker (fuseable link?) somewhere that we're missing. Thought that the servo motor bit the dust but both sides at the same time? Pretty unlikely. -MK

OK. There's no fuseable link. It's the radio fuse that's used for the power mirrors according to the Factory Service Manual. Most likely cause of the problem is a bad switch. I've scanned the pages from the FSM on how to test the switch and mirrors for proper operation using a volt meter and a 12v power source. I can't post it because it's a little too large of a file. If anybody needs it PM me and I'll email you the goods.

Ok, found the problem (yay!) There was a broken ground wire inside the boot that runs through the door. Had a trace done on each wire in the mirror wiring loom. Apparently when my local stereo shop installed dome tweeters in the small triangle panels on the inside of the door they broke the wire when they snaked the speaker wires through the door boot. Spliced the wire back together and Voila! Adjustable mirrors once again. Thanx everybody for your help. -MK

That's awesome. Makes sense now if I think about it. Switch was working, power coming to the wires - everything seemed right. The more I think about it most of my electrical problems in cars have stemmed from bad grounds! Glad it's all working OK!
