Hi everyone, I finally took the time to register. I usually post over at 4x4wire. Anyways, I want something a little louder. My TRD 99+ side exit system is too mellow. I can hardly hear it. It only growls when I am at about 1800 rpms..doesn't sound like anything when I stomp on it. I was looking to replace just the muffler with a 18" body magnaflow. The TRD measures 22"(body). Would this be a good idea? I've done the research here and some have said that a S/C w/ trd exhaust runs lean already. Which is more free flowing...TRD or magnaflow? -thanks

I'm not familure with the TRD but I did have the magnaflow on a 3.0 and it sounded really good. It wasn't super loud but it had a good deep sound. It was very free flowing too. Don't know if it's worth the cash to switch though cus the TRD should be damn good too.

Yes yes, do get the magnaflow. But for real sound you'll want the 14".

I had a Tanabe exhaust on my Civic. It sounded dope, but not for $550!!

What were your impressions on the Tanabe exhaust? I'm thinking of getting one for my '99 Hatch.

It was the best sounding exhaust in my opinion. However, I reiterate my point of it not being worth the money. By the time you drop that much dough, you are 1/3 of your way to a SC or Turbo.

I had a bunch of mods to my civic, in a nut shell after my cam install, aem CAI, and Tanabe exhaust, it absolutely screamed at 8K RPM. I used to let my friends drive it around so I could hear it from the sidewalk.

Tanabe is one of the few QS9000 certified exhaust companies - that I am aware of anyway.

I will probably go for the 18" body magnaflow. Some people have said that the 14" drones a bit in the cab. That size should be a good tradeoff. So, far, the quote I've got is for $140 for part and install w/ a bit of stainless tubing to make up for the gap. Good price or should I keep looking? The part number is 14256(stainless, 5x8x18"). -thanks

$140 doesn't sound too bad. What is the price of the muffler only?

I only checked one site and it was around $90. Hopefully they (midas)can get their hands on one. If so, it will be installed tomorrow.

I got the 18" oval can magnflow. I like the sound. Where in so cal are you from? the place I went to was king muffler and look for steve. He only charged me 125 no tax with install no receipt though and he doesn't have a mandrel bend machine but good for the price though.

Im in northridge/granada just aluminized. I just took off my factory muffler and replaced it with the remainder pipe onto the magnaflow. He did'nt have it in stock but he sent me down to his place where he gets his mufflers in van nuys only 5 min away from his shop and they had about 10 in stock. I just went to pick the muffler up got it in 2 min of picking it up and went back to get it put on.Hope this helps He is in van nuys called king muffler ask for steve.

Can he do it in stainless though? I would only need a couple of inches to connect it to the old pipes. A lot of places only carry aluminum. Also, the place where you picked up the muffler...did they sell to anyone or it had to be authorized by king muffler? -thanks

I can't remember if he had any stainless but try to give him a call. sorry lost his # Got it put on about a 1yr and a 1/2now. But when I picked up the muffler they called him and he told them to charge it to his account. So I didn't know how much he got it for. But on reseda in northridge I think its called California muffler they do have the stainless and do mandrel bending there.Hope this helps
