Question Should the Forum be seperated by Gen or Year?

I have the latest Gen 4 Runner and was thinking it might be helpful to everyone if the Forums were separated a bit further into 1st Gen, 2nd Gen, and so on. I notice that I filter through everything that I can to look for only info on the latest Gen and I'm sure everyone else does the same thing depending on their year/Gen of 4 Runner.

Would this be too hard to do? Does anyone else think it's a good idea or that it would be helpful? Or are there possibly reasons not to do this?

Just a thought!

While your idea does have merit, I think it would prove too complicated to bring to fruition and much too difficult to monitor and maintain. There is another forum that deals mostly with the 4th genners, www.t4r.org, perhaps you can find the information you seek there, again, as it is mostly 4th genner street rigs there. I hope this helps!

Great, i'll check that out!

I've had a ton of cars/trucks over my life and have been a member of multiple forums. One example would be a Mustang. The forums are not for Mustang/Focus/Ranger, they're much deeper. They drill down to Generation of Mustangs (specifically). It's simply a matter of adding another heading underneath 4 Runner/Truck/Etc. Someone with a '92 4 cylinder pickup would have a much easier time finding what they were looking for if they could look in "their" section.

yea, i understand your point, but in all honesty, i love reading about issues regarding all gens and would most likely not if they were seperated out.

im pretty sure that my next vehicle purchase will be the latest runner, whatever gen that ends up being.. so i like to be informed on it all.

I agree with others! While I currently have 3rd gen., I certainly love to read and respond about issues and modification for 1st, 2nd and 4th gen. After all, 4th gen is probably going to be my next runner.

although we may have different gen 4runners, we all face similar problems so it helps to read up on other issues

plus it keeps us closer as a family!

Sounds like a plan.. I came up with titles for the different sections already:

We can call the 1nd gen section “Curio&Relics”
2nd gen “3.4 Wet dreams”
3rd gen “Badass Rigs”
4th gen “3 inch lift to get 3rd gen ground clearance”

Since the question was asked I thought that I would give my .02 worth

I would like to see then as followed:

Driveline

Electrical

Body

Suspension

This way you could go right to the category that you need.

I think what needs to be done here is just use what we have better. The forums are there. For example, 4X4 wires off road forum is hopping while this one's is hardly used. Since older trucks tend to be wheeled harder, they tend more towards the off road forum. You can still read about all gens, but the tech is more related and there is enough separation to make finding info easier. You don't have stereo questions next to solid axle swap buggy build ups.

That's why there is a specific forum here for SAS work..... it's called "The Fab Shop" and then for the more hardcore offroaders we have the "Offroad Tech"

Good thing we have a GREAT SEARCH FEATURE so you don't have to sift through all the unapplicable info...
