Shell V-Power° sucks!!!

I ran the 4Runner down to nearly empty. I filled up with Shell's new premium fuel called V-Power°. Usually, Shell/Texaco fuels run exceptionally well through the 4Runner. Not this time! I drove to Golden to get the emissions test done, went on a date (found in Off-Topic) and drove to work today (26.75 miles one-way) and noticed I was already at half a tank. I filled up at lunch and recorded my mileage - 15.7 MPG. A sharp drop from the 18.2 I've been averaging. I know it's not my O2 sensor because I just had my emissions done yesterday and I passed with better results than achieve 2 years ago. For $2.20/gallon, Shell can kiss my rear!

Anyone else have negative experience with Shell?

hmmm, I actually remember getting BETTER mileage with Shell last time I filled up there, but I didn't use the new V power stuff. Interesting.

Alan, they might have changed the ethanol blend out there with the new gas, so that might be the reason for your bad mileage. Bad gas, bad date, but both with great emissions!!!! Can't get any better than that!

Shell has always run good through my truck even if I don't put v-power in it!

also is your car tuned for that high octane gas? I know that I've heard of people getting worse milage runner a higher octane gas then recommended.

You all do realize that gasoline is gasoline. It all comes from the same place no matter who sells it. The only thing they change is their additives that are the detergents and the stabilizers.

and so, my truck thrives on the cheapest excuse for gas i can find. nothing like safeway or arco gas

i'd run leaded if it was still made(besides $4 a gallon racing gas), that's how cheap i am

I've had good experience with the V-Power when I can afford it, otherwise I avoid all other Shell gas as I've had problems with moisture in it freezing at night. I don't have those probs with any other gas including Arco, Costco, Fred Meyer etc. maybe its just our shell station is old and should be avoided...

I still stand by the shell gas......

Btw, and additive such as octane has a similar effect as NO2 in the cylinders.

i'm really confused....you WERE getting 18.2 mpg...WITH a supercharger, header, tuned ECU and a couple extra pounds of trail armor?.....brand new from the factory, after broken in was getting 19 mpg highway at the MOST....the engine was designed for 87...I used 93 once and I notice a slight drop in MPG, of course you have to run high test since you have a supercharger.....

I think your emissions inside the cabin (see other thread) might have altered the ECU and O2 sensors

Was it the Shell at Kipling and I-70? (...creepy...)

I forked over the extra money to try their V-Power for a trip up to Greeley last week and the throttle response on my '93 is a nice change from the cheap Diamond Shamrock high-altitude 85 octane stuff. But I agree, I got fewer miles out of this tank than I was expecting. However, I was in a hurry to get drunk, so I might have driven it a little harder too... Who knows.
