Is she Dead - HELP PLEASE

Hello All,

I recently purchased an 85 4runner 22re w/62880 miles on it. Vehicle was running awesome until today I was driving to work today and it quit running. First it would not go more than 30 mph - than it threw a CEL and cut off. (n

had it towed to the shop and the guy indicated that there is no spark.

Then he called back and said the distributor is not spinning.

Does this mean that I broke my timing chain.

Help Please

the distributor wouldnt turn if the chain was broken, the chain is what drives the gear that spins it. hope your valves are ok.

It may be dead, but those motors are a dime a dozen. Long block for a grand.

The timing chain breaking should have made one hell of a clatter followed by the sound of pistons hitting valves.
I'd guess the distributor gear got eaten or the shaft broke. Pull the valve cover and take a peek. If the chain broke, it's probably sitting down in the TC cover. I'm betting something happened to the distributor gear or shaft.

I didn't here a any loud noises - it just kinda "let go" when it stalled. I have to have it towed tomorrow (40 miles...ouch)..Then I'll (with yota techs help) pull the distributor off.

did you ever get a diagnosis for the problem? If so, what was the solution? I had the same thing happen, and I'm just now getting the time to take a look at my truck.
