Haynes or Chiltons, I don't need a factory one at this time.

I love this BB. I am new here but not new to toyotas. I had 2 land cruisers from 76 till 95. One 68 and a 69. Wish I still had the 69. But the 68 burned in a shop fire in 78. I put around 350,000 miles on those rigs in N.W. Wyoming. 90% of which went on the 69. Since 95 I have been running an 84 excab PU 22r. I just bought a 95 4 runnr. I also have an 83 standard cab. All 4x4s.

I like the Haynes > Chilton, but that's just my opinion. Why don't you need the factory? It's the best thing that happened to us since *insert whatever makes most sense to you here*.

check in our maintenance forum. look at the first stickied thread and look for the toyota online manual website. see if they have the manual for your vehicle. $10 per day to download everything. user opinions are in there too

personally, i dont htink the chiltons or haynes is any good. for things like basic maintenance, not bad. but for more complex things like wiring diagrams, exploded views, etc, neither of them come close.

Ditto. I have all three for my truck... I bought a Chilton, hated it; bought a Haynes, hated it; bought the FSM, LOVE it.

Well, I don't have any trouble to dig into right now and they are only about 20$. I found the FSMs online in pdf, They are a bit of a pain to load for me tho. I was a mechanic in stealerships for 10 years give or take and yes some was toyota. That all ended in 87. Then did it for about another five yrs on my own. I don't have the bucks for the "holy grail" books right now. Im a little lost on this 95 tho cuz I didn't get the owners manual the guy I bought it from says he has it but hasn't found it yet.

The search function on this board is better than either, but not quite as portable...

I have found the Haynes manual for the 2nd gen 4Runner to be seriously lacking in certain areas. There is NOTHING about ADD hubs in there, for instance. I am not happy with the Haynes manual for my Impala either.

Probably not much help though, since I don't have the Chilton's to compare ... couldn't be any worse, I imagine.

haynes is ok, but factory is obviously the best.

i also dislike the online ones, since you cant flip through the pages...

PDFs are harder to read than books.

Get an FSM.
I got the electronic version and then decided to get the paper copies as well.

If you're going to work on your rig then the FSMs are the way to go and no need to go cheap.
