Selection of 255/85/16s?
While money is short I'm just going to do a 2" body lift and get some new shoes. Husky's 255/85 BFG MT's are excellent looking, but I'm looking for other options...and since I'm in college, possibly cheaper. I was upset to see the BFGs all terrains don't come in that size. This size is especially important because of the backspacing and other issues that I can overlook with my stock 16s (same as huskys). Just wondering what else was out there and if anyone had any pictures. Thanks guys

Will 285s fit just as fine with my stock suspension and 2" body lift? rubbing won't be that big of an issue off-road as i don't plan on wheeling hardcore until i've completed the rig with suspension and everything.

a member here had to take out his suspension lift to get the coilovers rebuilt and had 35's with 1.5" body lift and a whole lot of trimming, but IIRC he rubbed bad even on the street, i dont know how 2" body lift and 33"s would be, but I assume it couldnt be THAT bad... maybe some trimming is in your future...

interco trxus comes in a 255/85/16. heres a comparison pic w/ a 285/75/16 MT/R...both unmounted. the trxus is a spare..so not as much tread obviously. interco makes terriffic off road tires...and the trxus performs great. i havent had em, but a buddy does and they do really well...

it looks like the 285s are on the right, but i thought the 255 were a taller tire...or is that just the worn down tread? i'm pretty much tire retarded so i'm relying on you guys. will 285s fit on my stock rim? and if so, what would i have to do about backspacing? would the tire place deal with that? i'm just wondering if it will be any more difficult than me going in there and saying those tires on this rig.......right meow. well, something like that

Roger Brown suggested I check out the procomp buy 3 get 1 free over at 4wheelparts.com. i saw the PC all terrain available in 285/75. just wondering if there was any experience with this tire from any of the members. sidewall design and overall tread seems more innocent than what i'm looking for, correct me if i'm wrong

Don't know where you're at but there's a guy selling 4 255/85/16 BFG Muds in the classifieds section for a good price. He's in AZ. I would have snagged them but I wanted ATs
from my experience I wouldn't put 285s on without some suspension increase over stock. At 2.5" over stock I still had to trim and now my AT's still hit the frame when turning sharp.

i have 255s and i love them, i have the bfg M/T with about 20k on them and they still perfom awsome. 285s WILL rub the upper control arm under tire bulging on my truck, thats just something i don't have to worry about anymore

285/75/16's stock wheels, 2.5 suspension lift..you'll see the triming on the fender and the upper arm shaving where the knobs rub at full crank/droop. They are TOYO MT's.

255/85/16 Cooper ST's are on sale at discount wheel warehouse. Google it.
If they try to charge you shipping email consumerist.com and they will fight it for you. Even with $50 shipping its still a better deal than I've ever seen at $132 per tire.

The BFG's do cost a little more than some of the other manufacturer's 255's, but if you take into account their long-standing reputation for high quality, hard wearing, durable tires, I think they are worth it. Another thing that influenced my decision was availability: it is expensive to ship tires (esp. to Canada) so I chose to find my tires locally.
