[SEATTLE] Dyno day?

Hey all Seattle area folks!

I'm looking to drum up interest in a Dyno Day!

There's a shop close to me (Carb Connection) that has a dyno and does club rates. ref: http://www.carbconn.com/

Their normal pricing is $145 to get a baseline (no limit to runs) plus tuning. I pointed out that there's not a lot of tuning to do on our trucks (unless you're running a piggy-back unit), and that price is $95.

BUT! Their club pricing is less than that. For 5 or more vehicles we can get baseline runs for $75 each. (no tuning)

Anyone interested?

They only do club work on Saturdays, so kep that in mind when saying "YEAH! I'M IN! THAT'S SO COOL! THANKS MARK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

My office mate just brought up a good point... The shop certainly doesn't care WHAT we dyno!

Find friends with rides and bring 'em on down!

Hmm... maybe...

Did you confirm they would take 4x4's? The last time I went through this, they tanked us at the last minute because they suddenly felt that 4x4's didn't match their dyno set up. I don't remember which shop that was, but that one rings a bell.

Wouldn't those with automatic locking diffs be exempt? I am thinking along the lines of how the rollers that the tires sit on would handle a locking diff. Or do they not do dyno's like that?

They were concerned that the 4x4's might somehow go into 4x4 from two-wheel drive and leap off the dyno. They said they would 'consider' rigs with manual hubs because even if it engaged, it couldn't go anywhere with the hubs unlocked, but ADD equipped rigs were specifically banned.

Most serious race/drag cars have rear TADs or lockers. They strap it down so it can't slide sideways.

I just called them back.

Their bottom line is "4WD yes, AWD no". I restated it as "so, as long as we can assure you that the front end isn't going to lock up, then you're okay". "Yeup! We run 4WD's all the time".

There's a guy here at work that wants to bring his 300Z - and he has a buddy that has a 300Z Twin Turbo.

Update!

It looks like I have 3 people here at work (plus that WATRD character!) that want to go... and they're not bringing Toyotas (there's a 300Z, 300Z Twin, 68 Camaro w/a 454). So! I declare this an open free-for-all event!

I checked with the shop to confirm that they don't have any ties to a "club" being a specific mfg/model of vehicle.

So with 5 people at the ready, let's talk about dates. Once we set a date I'll lock us into the shop.

Saturdays only - I open the suggestions with May 15th.

Are you sure that the 24th anniversary of the Mt. St. Helens eruption is a good day to put your rig on a dyno?

LOL at Rob. Not sure if you caught it on the other thread, but my friend's Teg blew his motor after putting down 303 HP at the wheels on this very dyno.

It looked like Mt. St. Helens erupted steam under his hood between his block guard and his head.

I imagine the Seismograph of that looked much like the one I have on my wall from May 18th, 1980. I was on a canoe trip in Eastern Washington when it went and that wall of ash coming over the mountains looked like the end of the world. We pitched our tents and sat in them, smacking them regularly to knock the ash off. We had FEET of ash by the next morning and the river was all silted up

I remember riding my 1981 BMX Mongoose through the ash near Robinswood park in Bellevue. Yeah, ash in Bellevue!

Sorry for threadjacking, carry on dyno warriors!

*Edit* 1980 Mongoose
