screwed up, big time! tow mount bolt broke...

i was trying to take off the waag brushguard and one of the bolts that holds the big tow hook (not the tow hole), on the drivers side broke, well the head just came right off, what do i do? if i take off the other 3 bolts (and hopefully they wont break) will the brushguard come off? the broken bolt has the rest of the body still in the hole, obviously its screwed into the frame, but is it also screwed into the tow hook? if not then the guard might be able to slide out... is my assumption correct?

If you take off the other 3, and they don't break, I think it should come off granted you have room to slide it (waag) enough to clear the headless bolt stud.

If so, you'll then be able to clamp on it with some BA vise grips and get the rest of it out.

You are talking bout the 4 17mm bolts on the bottom of the front frame rails? aren't ya?

You think it will drop enough to clear the headless bolt stud? so you'll be able to clamp on it with the vise grips and get it out?

You can also weld a nut on it and take it off that way.

drill a small hole in it.
get some screw extracters from harbor freight.
hammer one of the screw extracters into the whole.
find a socket that fits the end of the screw extracter.
use an impact wrench in reverse to impact it out.

That's how I got my rear diff filler plug out since I didn't have access to a welder to weld a nut onto it.

I've also had good luck using a pipe wrench - provided there's enough bolt sticking out to grab it. Yes it sounds hackish but it does work
