Satoshi grille is on! (pics)

Thanks to ASU4runner for swapping grilles with me. I did this a little different than the standard write-up. I cut the lower right and left connection points out from the grill for a cleaner look. When I cut the inside bars out of the grille, I left as much as possible on the sides, so I only needed to use bondo (no fiberglass) to fill the small gaps before I sanded and painted the inside black. And, I used zip ties to hold the mesh on, instead of twisting a bucnch of wire.

potsy,

nice work

one question: is that bondo backed w/ any fiberglass? bondo is not a good filler unless it has something behind it

I like that license plate mod too...

Don't worry, I don't think anyone here is more of a threat to your lic. plate number than anyone off the street.

well, when i cut out the main bar, i cut it along the side so that there was kind of an indent that i needed to fill with bondo, but it wasnt a hole as shown in some of the write-ups. the gaps left by the smaller upper and lower bars i used tape to cover from the back and then used bondo over that to fill. i basically built the sides up about a 1/16 of an inch with bondo to smooth the whole thing out too.

Potsy..
nice work.. Im currently on the stages of Doing this mod myself.. I have questions.. Since you cut off the 2 bottem connection tabs. how well is you frame on? I like that look.. but I dont like the idea of my grill missing 2 connection points... 2nd.. what method did you use to attach the toyota logo? and would you mind describing that in detail??
where did you place your zip ties?

the middle connection point on the bottom holds it on pretty good without the other 2. The grille still rests agains the posts so if you push on either side it doesnt move or wobble.

i took 2 small angle pieces and drilled a hole in the middle (where it bends) for the screw. turn the angle peice upside down and the ends push against the mesh when you screw the badge in, kind of like big washer.

i used four ties on the top, drilling small holes in the mounting point parts of the grille, and then i drilled 5 holes along the bottom using the center mounting point for one of them. the way the grille curves underneath you cant see the bottom zip ties when its on the truck.

i'll take it off tomorrow and take a picture if you want...kind of hard to describe some of this without a visual
