is it safe to put redline mt-90 in my 5spd?

hey guys i have a 2002 tacoma with a 5spd and i wanted to put redline mt-90 in it becuase i heard so many good thigns about it, but i was doing some more searching today and saw some posts saying it wasnt good for the tranny, cause i was gunna put the same oil in my 02 ws6 6 spd tranny, but was told i have to put atf fluid in it, so i wanted to make sure that it is safe to put this oil in my truck and make sure i dont need atf fluid in this tranny too. thanks guys.

a lot of GM trannies take ATF, engine oil, or some special lube despite the fact that they're manual transmissions. your toyota transmission will be fine with MT90 as it's essentially a 90W GL4 gear oil.

should be fine however might want to check that it is gl4 certified.. i have heard that the gl5 stuff is too slippery for the manuals, they allows slipping of the synchros

I have Redline MT-90 in my 5spd tranny, and it made a drastic difference in the smoothness of the tranny. It shifts alot smoother now. I have Redline MT-90 in my tranny and transfer case, and Redline 75W90NS in my diffs front and rear... My dad has Redline in both diffs front and rear, and his tranny and transfer case as well in his Xterra 4x4... Overall, Redline makes awesome oil, i highly recommend it...

I run MT90 in my 5-speed. I run redline in all of my drivetrain components. Shifts much better.

I don't know what happened but I put RedLine MTL in my 5 speed and it was the same.

Next time around I used Mobil 1 and that's pretty much the same too.

I looked for smoother shifting, but it was pretty much the same.

Now I just use Mobil 1 it's easier to find.

I also used the Redline MTL in my 5 speed and I felt it was a little smoother, but not drastic. One thing to remember is that the MTL is actually a 70/80 weight oil and the MT90 is a 75/90 which is what Toyota calls for, I talked to a mechanic and they said the MTL would be fine and it does say it meets all 90w requirements. I switched from M1 to the MTL and it does make a difference, I will be finding some actual MT90 and putting it in this summer, so we'll see what happens.
