I'm sure I can. We had one like that in the shop a few weeks ago. Turns out it had a stuck actuator for the trans case or the front diff and they manually had to jump the connector to get it to move freely. The guy who worked on it will be in on tuesday so I can get a better answer for you then. Is it stuck in 4wd and won't come out or won't go into 4wd?

That I can't tell you without knowing whats wrong. I'm sure one of your actuators is stuck. Best thing to do is get a wiring diagram for the 4wd sys, find out where the connectors for the actuators are and power them up manually to make sure they work. You basically need to have the 4wd system diagnosed and it will probably take some time. All of the electronic push button stuff makes it time consuming

ToyTech76,

I have been meaning to ask which independent shop you work at because I am planning on getting the System 3 from Steve at Sonoran Steel in a couple of months and I am looking for a reputable shop in Sacramento to do the work. I would feel alot more comfortable if someone that owns a 4Runner could do the job. Thanks for any advice you could give me.

fatboidai,

I didn't mean to hi-jack your thread bro. I am also pretty much a newbie but if you need an extra hand, let me know.

The shop I work at is actually up towards placerville. What does system 3 consist of? If it isnt too involved it may be something I could do at my house

That would be awesome and I could get my hands dirty as well. I would really appreciate the help. I am not sure if you are familiar with the http://www.sonoransteel.com/store_co..._liftkits.html
but the system 3 is basically the factory 1999 4Runner coils and shocks. For some reason, the 1999 4Runner model was the highest among 3rd gen 4Runners. I live in an apartment complex and I do not have the necessary tools either.

You can rent them for free at Kragens. You will most likely need 2 or more kits. I also ended up renting the fork kit which I forget the name of. It made the fronts a lot easier to install.

Shane916,

I am pretty much a newb and supposedly someone can get severely injured if they don't know what they are doing, espcially a spring compressor. But thanks for the suggestion. Also, you said something about needing 2 or more kits, what were you referring to? The spring compressors, do they come in kits? Anyway, thanks for the clarification.

fatboidai,

I understand where you are coming from, I am a student myself. Just out of curiosity where are you attending? I am at Sac State and I have seen a couple of nice Runners on campus but not sure if they were YotaTech members or not. Good luck with the 4WD problem, I would help out but all I know how to do is the basic stuff and I am a newb myself. Please keep us updated for future reference.

Search around this site and you will find alot of info. on this problem. Find a way to disengage that actuator. Gotta start getting your hands dirty sooner or later or shill out the big bucks and take it in. Good luck

I think if you search FSM on this forum, there will be tons of links that will help you out. Or if you go to PepBoys or Kragens, they will have a Haynes or Chilton repair manual and you can probably take a peek in there.
