Running Rich Bank #1

Well just purchased my first 4runner (1999 Highlander) and after 1 day of ownership it is in the shop

After driving and warming up the engine I get a CEL and the truck will stall and not restart. At first it would restart with some coaxing from the gas pedal and now it will not start at all. I am getting some serious pinging, sputtering and finally stalling.

I had to have it towed to a local shop, hopefully they will be able to help me out.

Anyone else have these systems? I did some searching put didn't find much...

Any help would be appreciated!!!

Judd

Newbie question: Guess I'm missing something. I thought the Highlander started in 2001 ?
CELS would be different than 4Runner anyway right ?

There is a 4runner "highlander" edition (not to be confused with the Toyota highlander based on the Camry) which was available in 1999 and 2000 and later called the "Sport Edition" in 2001 and 2002.

"Highlander" was an unofficial name given to the "Sport" by the dealers.

I had tha same trouble number and mine was the MAS airflow sensor. The code is vague and could be a couple of things.

Good Luck!
