RPM's kick up in 4th Gear

So shifting into 4th gear, i get a high rev of the RPM up from about 3 to 4k....easing off the pedal the rev's drop back down and accelerate normal....this only happens in 4th....

Sounds like the clutch to me. The reason why it would happen in the higher gears is due to the increases torque demand on the clutch as the gear ratio increases. In calgary it is cheaper to have the dealer do the clutch than someone like canadian tire. Heninger & charlesglen were both $575 when I had mine done and CND tire wanted $950. By the way canadian tire's shop rate is now $85, WTF do they think they are a dealer???

Depends on how you drive, etc. Maybe a few months? I got it done right away for a couple reasons:

1. Anything wrong with my rig bugs me - especially something mechanical in nature.

2. I drive pretty agressively, and the last thing I need is a slipping clutch, especially when I go to pass a big rig loaded with gear and people.

Normally I would do the work myself, but I decided to just have it done at the dealer and be done with it. I got a 15% discount and it ended up around $650 US.

The only thing on the sequoia is the K&N filter. My wife would kill me if I started into that truck too much. I will probably get a bush bumper for it but that is about it. Any time you want to go out to waiparous let me know, we go out there fairly regularily. We have found some nice trails along the ghost that aren't too brutal.

I just called Charlesglen and a clutch replacement is now $1220. They told me that when I had mine done it was a menu item & therefore different pricing. Going from $575 to $1220 in 3 years seems a little extreme???

I had called because my release bearing has started making noise after only 50,000 kms and 3 years. My old one lasted 330,000kms and 10 years???

Any ideas?

Matt

I have to down load the pictures still. I am the one in Calgary that used to plow snow with the 4runner if you have seen that. I will let you know when I post the pics.

My Old Tacoma did the same thing when the clutch went out. I was towing a trailer at the time, and i remember looking backkand seeing white smoke. Well i made it home, and just changed it myself. That was a pain to do. Its could still drive it but i rather not let it leave me on the side of the road.
