Rough Runner! CE Light=Diagnosis HELP needed

Hey guys....

took my 3.4l equipped runner camping and wheeling yesterday....no water, nothing into the engine compartment....and heading to the campgrounds the engine started running rough crusing along at 55-60 in 4th gear...before a downshift...at about 2400-2500 rpm - but, if you gave it gas, it would take out like a kicked mule... ....however...this a.m. it's gotten a bit worse...so here I am at my mom's house 70 miles from home....

my plan of action:
spark plugs - I've never done 'em...figure start there AND
CLEAN THE MAF! And wires to follow if the plugs don't do the trick (and just to do them too...)

other than that....I've put a can of Lucas gas treatment in the tank....and ... I NEED SUGGESTIONS!

i know that the stealership could help me w/ the computer diganosis of the o2 sensor, etc....but...it's SUNDAY.

thanks in advance!

Åaron

Was your CEL flashing at any point?
I had a real bad misfire. Plugs and wires did the trick!

ok...it's fixed!
Plugs, wires and a MAF cleaning (which I *don't* think it was a dirty MAF)

I'm kinda kicking myself....shoulda done this before now...but....
anyway, looks like the wires were ORG! (they have 1997 ink'd on them, and the truck is a '98 built in 10/97!)

and....IIRC, I've read this in a thread somewhere.....
passenger side were NGK....driver side were DENSO! WTF!???!?

but....worried mind at ease!

Good luck with the Bosch plugs. A lot of members seem to have problems with them. Glad to hear you're up and running again.

ok....so....the ride home.....
(test drive was FINE)

going up hills at about 80 mph (crusie control) when the 4r dwnshftd to 2nd, at about 3.5-4k rpms.....it would start to sound rough....nothing like before....but similar....then the CEL would flash for a bit.....then it would go away. AH! This happened on every BIG hill....thank God I'm not in the MTNS!

so, STILL a BIT of misfire....nothing like before....but....yeah....I'm thinking the Bosch's are going to go BYE BYE and I'm going to spend the money on 'yota partz from the stealership.
