finally got pics of my roof console put in my '98 4runner, ran into some problems but "fixed" them with some minor setbacks.

first off, thanks bob for your write up, i would have never known about this or done it without you and yotatech, THANKS!

ok, so i bought it used off ebay for $50 shipped, was Oak in color so that was a bonus for me. did the wiring, no prob. i did not get the rear view mirror with this, could not find one on ebay, checked with my local toyota dealership where i get things for cost and it was still $87, and they said you could not just buy the base and re-use the old mirror. mr. thrifty in my head didn't like that so i took the mirror off the '98 base, took a hack saw to it for about 10 minutes, drilled one new hole and all was well in camelot again. when i get time and feel like disassembling it again, i'll take a picture of the hacked up '98 base, i pretty much lopped off the ends where the lights are and anything else that protruded from the base so it was a flat square base again.

i cut the new hole in the plastic for the old sunroof buttons, take your time and use the dremel and a file and it will be perfect. noticed the buttons were fitting a little loose so i used some adhesive to secure them, and some of it got on the plastic trim around the buttons and made it look like crap so...
i taped off the lighted section and sprayed some duplicolor bed liner on that part to hide the blemish, then i decided to "smoke" the lighted section with some VHT NightShades spray tint. looks good (to me at least) and the lights are still really bright, even at night when i'm looking for something in the car or reading a map. i also added a large piece of foam padding in the sunglass storage to eliminate any rattling of the glasses while on road.

oh, i was able to squeeze my garage door remote where you put the foam and it does not affect the sunglasses in them either. but you have to stick it way in the back.

im about to make my own. the one there is useless!!!

im sure i could fab up something awesome out of fiberglass, but that requires time, something i dont have... maybe this summer.

anyway, looks awesome. good job!
