Question Rim/wheel question

I called up 4wheelerparts.com to order some ProComp rims..He asked what size I told him 16" he told me that on Toyota's if you go with a aftermarket rim you have to go up one over stock because of the big brakes..So since stock is 16" the aftermarket i have to go with a 17"..Is this true?????Is a 16" rim not a 16" rim...First I dont want to go with 17" rims tires cost more and I only have 3000 miles on these tires..Please shed some light on this cause i want some new rims...Thanks

not true, i don't know what that guys talking about...unless he was referring to width, usually aftermarket 16s start at 16x8

Ok from what I found out was factory rims have a backspacing of 5"...Aftermarket 16" rims have a backspacing of 4.5" and are coned..A 17" rim has 4.75" and that is what it will take for the caliper to fit..Can I use a backspacer to bump it out a inch? What are the cons to do this..My truck is just for riding no serious off roading the occansional trip for hunting...

If using the search button fails you, I always then look at the other modded vehicles in the show off your rig section.

Took me just a few minutes to find others with tacomas running aftermarket 16" rims. If you have specific questions about their rims you can pm them. People are always happy to answer questions about their rig but may not answer a question on the board that is seemingly so simple and looks like no effort was put into searching.

As an example, I get pm questions about my lift on my 4runner, I am always happy to answer because they are obviously doing their homework and finding out who has what and getting their specific questions answered. On the other hand, I no longer will answer simple questions in a new thread about cruiser coil lifts. I don't even read them. The poster obviously didn't do any kind of searching.

Hopefully this helps and please don't take this as flaming. Just showing you another way of searching for info and why sometimes these questions won't get answered.

Did he know that you did not have an '05 on up Tacoma? On those Tacoma's even if your Tacoma came with 16 in rims, a lot of aftermarket 16 in rims do not fit. If you signature is correct, why would you mess that up, then he is incorrect. I apologize for the eronious info from one of my co-workers. Yes, I manage a 4wheel Parts. See signature
