Returning to the scene...pointers on 4 cyl MT 2wd

So in a few weeks I might be getting a new 3rd gen. It's only been about 3 years since I had my v6 auto 2wd but thats the only engine I've been familiar with. I was wondering if anyone can tell me about any quirks I should look for or be aware of. Seeing how rare the manual tranny is and even rarer to find a 4 cyl manual, I will probably have to fly somewhere to buy one and if I do then I won't be going back home on a flight. The only issue I ever had with mine was a stuck starter motor but that was at 140k and my friend with a 4 cylinder also had the same at around the same mileage.

Is there anything I should look for when picking it up? I think I have my eyes on one that has about 115k with about 3 previous owners. It's from a stealership so its a bit overpriced but I'm willing to pay to get a great vehicle again.

Good to see you back Tuan

Like Chris said, look out for the exhaust manifold. They are almost always cracked. If it is, I offer a header conversion using factory parts to eliminate the troublesome manifold.

wasn't it just the 2RZ that had the manifold problem? or was it a year problem?

Good suggestion but I don't think I'd ever use it...the 4wd that is.

I was checking out the sticky on the manifold. Definately will do that if I don't boost the truck.

2RZ and 3RZ used the same exact manifold. The problem exists from 95.5 to 2000
