Currently I'm running LT265/75R16 tires and I have noticed a slight loss in gas mileage and acceleration. If I were to regear from my stock 4.3 gearing to a 4.56, would I see any differnce in gas mileage and acceleration?

Depends on your driving style. If u drive mostly freeways and don't tow, than stick to the 4.30's. If u drive mostly on streets than get 4.56's.

4.30 will help w/ cruising gas milage
4.56 will help w/ acceleration gas milage

I always have a heavy car though, I do many road trips with about 4 people and all their luggage. What I need most is probably the gas mileage and acceleration.

i doubt 4.30s to 4.56s will make much of a difference. I'm not sure if it's worth it. I had a thread about going from 4.10s to 4.30s a little while back, and decided against it.

It's not worth the cost if your reasoning is just gas mileage alone. And even performance wise, you would be better off putting your money towards something like an exhaust system. I think that would make a little more of a difference for the money.

IMO that is not enough of a difference to justify the expense of gears and install

You won't notice that much of a difference and after you drop around $800 on it you will seriously regret it IMO.

What kind of increase in mpgs are we looking at? I drive equally on steep logging roads and highway aside from the bi-annual 1k mile highway road trip. 95 4runner, 200lb avg cargo, manual 3.0, 4.30's 31's, 1.5" suspension lift, currently avg 18-20 highway @60-65mph, 13-15 city (I have too much fun with a manual . Thinking about goin to 33's sometime and have been considering regearing at the same time I install a selectable locker this summer. Thanks in advance.. I've been reading through threads for hours.

...um...this thread is 8yrs old and is specific to the 1995+ 3rd gen 4runners and Tacomas -- you have a 2nd gen 4runner and the info doesn't really apply since you have a different drivetrain. Try reading threads about gearing/tire size/mpg in the 86-95 section. good luck!
